Installing an HP6540 printer for the EasyPro™ Hardware
To install the HP6540 printer, you will require the HP6540 printer as shipped from the factory, and a USB “dongle”
(also known as a Flash Drive or Jump Drive) for copying files to the EasyPro. Or, if you are using an EasyPro 3 instrument attached to the the Web via the
LAN in your office, you don't need a dongle.
Follow these procedures:
- Download the 6500_enu_win2k_xpinfu.exe file from the SRS web site EasyPro Printer Drivers section to a USB
"dongle" (or, if an EasyPro 3.0 is connected to the Internet, you can download to a directory on the EasyPro
itself.)
-
Make sure the EasyPro program is not running and that the printer is not connected to the EasyPro.
Double-click My Computer and navigate to the proper directory, depending on your EasyPro version:
For EasyPro Hardware or Software versions 3.0 and greater, navigate to c:\printer drivers. For EasyPro Hardware or
Software versions under 3.0, navigate to c:\Easypro.
- Create a new folder (right-click on the window for the directory you went to and choose New Folder).
If your EasyPro has a keyboard (osk.exe on the Start menu for a 3.0 system on-screen keyboard, or a USB
keyboard physically attached to the unit), rename the new folder to HP6500. We will be using for our example
C:\Printer Drivers\HP6500 - if your directory is C:\EasyPro\New Folder just use that name instead.
- Copy the 6500_enu_win2k_xpinfu.exe to c:\Printer Drivers\HP6500 (or whatever the name is of the directory
that you just created.
Double-click the 6500_enu_win2k_xpinfu.exe file to extract its files and directories.
- Connect the USB cable from the PC to the printer, and power on the printer.
- If the Hardware Wizard screen appears, click "Cancel".
- Now press the EasyPro's Start button; then double-click on Control Panel, then double-click Printers and
Faxes
- Next, double-click "Add Printer".
- When the Add Printer Wizard screen appears, click "Next".
- Choose "Local Printer", uncheck "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer", and click
"Next".
- Select "USB" Port and click "Next".
- In the next window, click the "Have Disk" button.
- Click "Browse" and go to the folder "c:\Printer Drivers\6500\enu\drivers\Win2k_xp". A file, with a filename
similar to "hpf6500k.inf", will be displayed. Select the file name and click "Open".
- Click "OK" to continue. "hp deskjet 6500 series" will now be found in the Printers column. Click "Next".
Note: If another 6500 Series driver is already installed, you will be shown a window asking you to
decide if you want to keep or replace the existing driver. Make your selection and click "Next".
- Click "Next" to accept the default printer name (suggested), or rename the printer and click "Next".
- Select "Yes" or "No" to print a test page and click "Next".
- To complete the installation process, click "Finish". The printer driver files will now be installed and the
hp deskjet 6500 series icon will be added to the "Printers" folder.
If you have a 3.0 EasyPro, you are all finished, if not, please do the following:
- Once the printer is installed, right-click on the printer icon in Printers and select Properties.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- In the middle frame, choose Print Directly to Printer.
- Press OK to save these changes.
