
The IVS-2 is the smallest, most comfortable female EMG sensor available and features gold detection electrodes. Although not commonly used in this area, gold was chosen because it is a non-polarizing material that provides consistently superior measurements and is also hypoallergenic.
The IVS-2 is inserted similarly to a tampon and positions above the urogenital diaphragm. Its small size and unique placement allows it to measure muscle activity even when the patient is moving. This is an important benefit, since certain movements are closely associated with urine loss. In addition, the IVS-2 allows measurement during voiding, allowing it to be used for both urodynamic diagnosis and biofeedback treatment.
Because of its small size and unique placement, the IVS-2 does not distend or distort the tissue, allowing it to make a “real-world” measurement of pelvic muscle tone. In addition, this allows the IVS-2 to be used at the same time with other sensors, including the Eisman-Tries MEP™ Dual-Site Anal Sensor. Along with abdominal surface electrodes, these two sensors measure a total of four muscle sites, proving a comprehensive “profile” of pelvic floor musculature and allowing identification of the areas of poorest function for each patient. As a result, biofeedback can be directed more specifically toward improving muscle function most adversely affected by trauma, disease, or atrophy.
